Authorship Criteria

Jurnal Tunas Pendidikan establishes the requirements for authorship based on the principles of integrity and publication ethics. The inclusion of a person’s name as an author must be based on a substantial scientific and intellectual contribution to the conduct of research or community service activities, as well as to the preparation of the manuscript. Administrative involvement, financial support, or technical assistance alone is not sufficient grounds for authorship.

1. Criteria for Authorship

Every individual listed as an author in an article must meet the following four criteria:

a.      Substantial Scientific Contribution. Making a meaningful contribution to the conception or formulation of ideas, the design of the research or activity, data collection, and the analysis and interpretation of the data upon which the manuscript is based.

b.      Involvement in Manuscript Preparation. Actively participating in drafting the article or critically reviewing and revising its essential intellectual content.

c.       Approval of the Final Manuscript. Reading, reviewing, and approving the final version of the manuscript before it is submitted for publication.

d.      Responsibility for the Integrity of the Work. Agree to take responsibility for the aspects of the work to which they have contributed and to cooperate in ensuring that any issues regarding the accuracy, validity, or integrity of the article are properly investigated and resolved.

Note: Individuals whose contributions are limited to providing funding, collecting data without further intellectual involvement, providing laboratory facilities, or general language and grammar editing do not meet the criteria for authorship. Such contributions may be acknowledged in the Acknowledgments section, depending on the nature of the contribution and with the consent of the individuals concerned.

2. Responsibilities of the Corresponding Author and Determination of Author Order

The corresponding author is responsible for coordinating communication between the journal and all co-authors during the manuscript submission, peer review, and publication processes, as well as after the article is published. In fulfilling this role, the corresponding author has the following responsibilities:

a.    Verify Eligibility for Authorship. Ensure that all individuals listed as authors meet the four criteria for authorship established by the journal.

b.   Ensure Transparency in the Determination of Authorship. Ensuring that no eligible individual is omitted from the article (ghost authorship in the context of omitting eligible authors), and that no individual who did not make a contribution meeting the author eligibility criteria is included as an author (gift authorship or guest authorship).

c.    Determining Author Order Fairly. Ensure that author order is determined by mutual agreement, taking into account the magnitude of each individual’s scientific and intellectual contributions. Author order should not be determined solely based on position, seniority, academic title, or institutional status.

d.   Determining the Roles of the First Author and Corresponding Author. The first author is generally the individual who has made the primary contribution to the conduct of the research and the preparation of the manuscript, as agreed upon by all authors. Meanwhile, the corresponding author is responsible for managing communication with the editor and journal staff, ensuring the completeness of submission documents, informing all authors about the editorial process, and coordinating the preparation of responses to editorial feedback and peer review comments.

e.   Ensuring Approval from All Authors. Ensure that every author has read, reviewed, and approved the final version of the manuscript before it is submitted for publication.

All authors are responsible for upholding the principles of honesty, transparency, and scientific integrity at every stage of the publication process. The determination of authorship and author order must be conducted transparently, based on verifiable contributions and mutual agreement among all parties involved.
