This study aims to analyze the validity and practicality of an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based Civic Education textbook designed to strengthen the Smart and Good Citizen profile. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach adapted from the Borg and Gall development framework, consisting of a preliminary study and needs analysis, product design, initial product development, expert validation, limited user testing, and product revision and refinement. The validity of the textbook was assessed in terms of content appropriateness, language, presentation, and media, while its practicality was evaluated based on students’ responses regarding ease of use, visual attractiveness, material clarity, and learning benefits. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative analysis based on the percentage scores obtained from expert validators and student users. The results showed that the textbook achieved an average validity score of 87.5%, categorized as very valid, with scores of 88% for content appropriateness, 85% for language, 87% for presentation, and 90% for media. The practicality assessment yielded an average score of 88.5%, categorized as very practical, with scores of 86% for ease of use, 89% for visual attractiveness, 88% for material clarity, and 91% for learning benefits. These findings indicate that the textbook is suitable for use as an alternative Civic Education instructional material that integrates AI, digital literacy, AI ethics, and digital citizenship. The originality of this study lies in providing empirical evidence of the quality of an AI-based Civic Education textbook developed in response to the needs of students and lecturers and oriented toward strengthening the Smart and Good Citizen profile.
